Get your Instrument Rating in 7-10 Days!

Get your Instrument Rating for only $5,250!

Certain prerequisites prior to starting your training exist, but this price includes all of your required dual instruction and use of my airplane for the checkride.

This training package is for students that come to me for training in my airplane and have met the prerequisites detailed below.  Travel to other locations for training and/or use of your own airplane is an available option, but, credits and/or  additional costs will be determined on a case by case basis.

Prerequisites to instrument Training

There a number of prerequisites the FAA requires be met to obtain an Instrument Rating, and there are some required of us to facilitate fast and cost effective training in our Accelerated Program:

  • You must hold a current Private Pilot Certificate
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must complete a home study or online ground school for the Instrument Rating
  • Recieve a logbook endorsement for written knowledge test
  • Pass written knowledge test
  • Must have logged a minimum of 40 hours of cross-country PIC time (50 is required by FAA, but we can get you the rest during the training if you come to us with 40)
  • Must have logged a minimum of 25 hours of actual/simulated flight by instruments (hood time). The FAA minimum is 40, but we will get you the balance of that time during our training

What’s Included In the Program

When a student comes to me with all of their prerequisite work completed, it allows us to focus exclusively on the FAA dual instruction training requirements. We do it on an accelerated basis because accelerated training has been shown to create the greatest retention of learning for students. When the FAA checkride immediate follows this training, you improve your chances of passing what many consider to be one of the most difficult checkrides in general aviation.

Here’s what you get for your money:

  • The FAA mandated 15 hours of dual instruction
  • The FAA mandated 3 hours of CHECKRIDE preparation within 2 months of your checkride
  • The FAA mandated IFR cross-country flight (min 250nm, 3 different points of landing w instrument approach at each airport, and different type Of approach at each airport.
  • A Mock Checkride review, including a mock oral exam, prior to your actual check ride
  • Use of my airplane, headsets, view limiting devices for the checkride
  • The full cost of the airplane, fuel, etc are included in the price, and
  • In the event you do not pass your checkride and you have  conduct the exam again, I will provide All required additional training on deficient areas and the airplane to complete the 2nd exam.

In addition to our in-person flight training, briefings, and debriefings, I provide access to FAA resources, links to informative training videos, and downloadable study guides/prep sheets as part of your training. Click the link below to go to the Instrument Rating Resources page.

Additional Charges

There are a few things you will be responsible for:

  • The Examiner’s fee (currently $600, and we recommend cash payment)
  • If you travel to our area for this training, all of your lodging and accommodation, transportation, etc are your responsibility
  • In the event that you are unable to complete your checkride on the second attempt, additional costs may be incurred to complete your training (dependent upon and varying to the deficiencies needing training)
  • Last but not least, weather, airplane maintenance issues, instructor and/or examiner availability, and other acts of God are factors outside my control as a flight instructor that may require rescheduling. However, I have contingency plans in place for all that have reliably served my students in the past.

I have some students that also seek out training and/or assistance getting the hours and other prerequisites done (time building) in order to complete the Instrument Rating training. For example, they need to get hood time, but don’t have anyone than can act as a safety pilot. Either I can help with that, or I can put you in contact with other students in similar circumstances. There’s always a way to get it done, so don’t despair. I can help you do it, and offer ways to do it in a cost effective manner

Payment Schedule

A deposit of $1,000 is required to schedule your slot. The balance is due at the beginning of training.

If you have scheduled training and need to reschedule, I will be happy to move you to a future training date. I ask for 3 days notice so I can attempt to fill your slot with another student.

In the event of no-shows or cancellations within 3 days of your slot, some or all of your deposit may be non-refundable. This will be dependent on circumstances and my ability to fill the slot you had originally scheduled. I work very hard to avoid this, but please understand I am operating a flight training business.
