MEI Course Description

Course Prerequisites
The following prerequisites apply to a student getting an MEI add-on rating:
- Must already possess an Instructor Certificate, either CFI or II (Having the Instrument Instructor is ideal so you will be ready to make use of your MEI)
- Must possess a Commercial Multi-Engine Rating (AMEL)
- Must have a current FAA Medical Certificate (or Basic Med)
- Must provide a photo of the above items, along with photo of Birth Certificate and/or Passport verifying US Nationality (We do not work with foreign students thru the TSA at this time)
Course Includes
The MEI add-on rating is a highly regarded Instructor rating, especially for those seeking employment in the 121 and 135 world. It’s a demonstration of your ability to not only fly multi-engine aircraft, but teach people to do it as well. Our course for MEI is a 3-Day program, providing 8-9 hours of flight time. For those that are short of the required multi PIC time, these hours may not be enough to exceed the minimum 15 hours of PIC (We want this minimum PIC time met by end of flying day Sunday, so that when you are completing your IACRA on Sunday evening, you exceed the 15 hours). If you are close, we can add some flying Saturday and/or Sunday at $600/hour. If you need additional flight days to reach your minimum 15 hours PIC, contact me and we’ll tailor something specific to your needs.
Course Objectives
Many, but not all, of the course objectives are:
- Mastering Complex (and High Performance) Aircraft Systems from the Right Seat
- Continue Developing Instructor Skills demonstrating proficiency in Multi Instruction from the Right Seat
- Demonstrate the ability to teach students multi-engine flying, especially emergency procedures
- Learn how to handle dangerous mistakes student make learning to fly Twin Aircraft
- Developing stronger Pilot-In-Command skills
- Prepare you for the MEI Add-on Checkride
We have great study materials, and a course that’s been used for years now and has proven itself to be successful for first-attempt checkride passes of nearly 100%!
Approximate Ground & Flight Hours
3-Day Course
The 3-day course will give you approximately 4 hours of ground instruction and approximately 8-9 hours of total flight time, which includes your checkride flight with the DPE. The 3-day course is ideal for someone with 6+ hours of Multi PIC prior to the start of the course.
For those who do not have any multi PIC time since their Commercial Multi Add-on, contact me directly to tailor a course specific to your needs. Our objective will be determining how to get you the required Multi PIC time for this checkride.
Course Timeline
The 3-day course is Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, with your checkride Monday afternoon.
