Get Your Commercial Pilot Certificate!

Want to fly airplanes and get paid to do it? Then come see me to get your Commercial Pilot Certificate!

For as little as $8,950 you can earn your initial (single engine) Commercial Pilot Certificate! This training can be completed in 10-14 days, or on a schedule tailored to your needs.

This price covers all of the dual instruction requirements of the single engine commercial pilot certificate, and use of the airplane for your checkride. Pricing assumes that the student comes to me with their Private Pilot and Instrument Rating completed, their Commercial Pilot Knowledge test passed (I can assist with this endorsement), and the solo/non-dual instruction aeronautical experience requirements for the single engine Commercial Pilot certificate completed.

Costs can exceed the training package pricing if you haven’t completed, or have only partially completed, the aeronautical experience time building required for a Commercial Pilot. We can work with you to finish the flight hours for additional costs, detailed in the section below.

Commercial Pilot Certificate - Training Program Prerequisites

Prerequisites for starting the single engine Commercial Pilot Certificate training program are:

  • You must hold a current Private Pilot Certificate AND your Instrument Rating
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must complete a home study or online ground school for the Commercial Certificate and pass the written knowledge test (I can help you with this endorsement if needed)
  • Come to me with the following Commercial Pilot aeronautical experience requirements completed:
    • Total flight time of approximately 230 hours prior to commencing training.  250 hours is the FAA minimum Aeronautical Experience required for the Certificate.
    • 100 hrs must be in powered aircraft
      • 50 hrs must be in airplanes
    • 100 hrs of Pilot in Command time
      • 50 of those PIC hrs must be in airplanes
      • 50 of those PIC hrs must be cross country, 10 of which must be in airplanes
    • 10 hrs of single engine airplane solo flight time, of which you complete the required 300nm cross country, and your 10 night take offs and landings at a towered airfield.

My Commercial Pilot training package is priced competitively because it is focused on the dual instruction and checkride preparation is required by the FAA. I realize that students are unique and that students come to me with unique training backgrounds and flight experience levels. Because of this fact, I price the training on the areas requiring instruction and checkride. We can then deal with the solo/non-dual instruction experience requirements on an individual basis as (or, if) needed.

Not having all of your time building requirements does not disqualify you from working with me on your Commerical certificate, but it will add time and costs to the pricing of the training package. Those costs are detailed in the Additional Costs section below.

NOTE: A student that's completed their Private Pilot and Instrument Rating will usually have a minimum of 90hrs of flight time counting towards the above requirements. You may have more depending on personal experience. I often see around 120-140 hours at this point for students.

Commercial Pilot Certificate training package Costs

As discussed above, our program covers the dual instruction requirements, checkride prep, and checkride time for the certificate/rating sought. We will complete the CFR 61.129 dual instruction aeronautical experience requirements and provide the additional services listed below:

  • Minimum 10 hours of single engine dual instruction in our Cherokee 180
  • Minimum 10 hours of complex dual instruction in a Cessna 310 (complex/high performance endorsements included) (based on student ability and interest, a multi-engine rating is available for this time - inquire about details)
  • The FAA mandated 3 hours of CHECKRIDE preparation within 2 months of your checkride
  • Use of my airplane, headsets, view limiting devices for the checkride
  • The full cost of the airplane, fuel, etc are included in the price, and
  • In the event you do not pass your initial checkride, requiring you take the exam again, I will provide all required additional training on deficient areas and the airplane to complete the 2nd exam within the price of the training.

In addition to our flight training, briefings, and debriefings, I provide access to FAA resources, links to informative training videos, and downloadable study guides/prep sheets as part of your training. Click the link below to go to the Commercial Pilot certificate Training Resources page.

Additional Costs

Below are some of the additional costs you will, or may, be responsible for:

  • The Examiner’s fee (currently $600, and we recommend cash payment)
  • If you choose to obtain your multi engine Rating, there will be a separate Examiner’s Fee and separate check ride date.
  • If you travel to our area for this training, all of your lodging and accommodation, transportation, etc are your responsibility
  • If you come to me with a deficiency in the prerequisite solo/non-dual instruction aeronautical experience areas, the Cherokee 180 will be made available to you at our current rental rates (currently $180/hr wet) (Eg - If you lack 25hrs of PIC time, we can rent you our airplane at the current rate of $180/hr X 25hrs for $4,500 of additional cost to the base price of the program. Or you can finish that flight time through other sources you have access to)
  • In the event that you are unable to complete your checkride on the second attempt, additional costs will be incurred to complete your training (we are unable to guarantee passing checkride within base price after 2nd attempt. Some factors are outside my control, including but not limited to the dedication, commitment, and ability of the student)
  • Last but not least, weather, airplane maintenance issues, instructor and/or examiner availability, commitment and dedication level of the student, as well as other acts of God are factors outside my control as a flight instructor that may require rescheduling. However, I have contingency plans in place for all that have reliably served my students.

Payment and Training Schedule

A deposit of $1,000 is required to schedule your training. The balance is due at the time training starts. If you have scheduled training and need to reschedule, I will be happy to move you to a future training date. I ask for 3 days notice so I can attempt to fill your slot with another student. In the event of no-shows or cancellations within 3 days of your slot, some or all of your deposit may be non-refundable. This will be dependent on circumstances and my ability to fill the slot you had originally scheduled.

The timeline for training depends entirely on the experience and skill level of the student. Once we've spoken and had a chance to review your flight background, a timely can be established for starting and completing your Commercial Pilot certificate. It can be done in as little as 7-10 days, or spread out over a longer timeline to suit your needs.
